Carlingford adventure.
After a busy few weeks with the TY musical a break sounded great.
On Monday everyone arrived in school with bags and bags of clothes ready to hit the zip lines. After a brief assembly we hit the road to Carlingford listening to songs from Joseph for Gurney.
An hour and a half flew by and suddenly we were staring at the freezing waters of Carlingford Lough. We were met by an instructor who lead us off on the walk to the Centre, it was at this point I realized I had packed a lot more clothes than I need as I tried to haul them up the road.
After a housekeeping assembly we were given our groups and rooms and headed up for our lunch. The lovely smell of chicken and chips greeted us. After we had our lunch we all checked to see what activities we had in the afternoon. I was delighted as we had Laser tag. We walked up into the woods and found a little building. Behind it a big course set out with obstacles and hiding walls. Even though my team lost all there games I still enjoyed the laser tag.
That evening after dinner my group had a campfire near the woods.
We all gathered on logs that had been set out for us while Andy lit the fire in the centre. We played songs, sang and toasted marshmallows. We played games and tried to solve puzzles the instructors gave us.
Night fell and as it did we set off back to the centre. We headed to the common room to play table tennis, table football, volleyball and cards before bed. At about 10:45 teachers told us to go our rooms and get ready for bed
The sun hadnt risen on day two when i got up to shower hoping that the hot water tank was full. Much to my disappointment the shower was freezing but that didnt dampen spirits as we set off to do the Skypark.
I was absolutely dreading the skypark because of my fear of heights but I was very glad I did it as I really enjoyed it. I really think it helped me with my fear because by the end i was very comfortable in the treetops. We went on to the Archery course later and tried to hit each other with the arrows (the points of the arrows were covered in rubber.) One of the activities I had never tried was frisbee golf. Everyone was given a frisbee and was told to aim for the hole. It was unusual but very enjoyable.
We headed back to the centre and got our dinner. We then found out what activity we would have that evening. We had nightline, that is when we are all blindfolded and we had to complete an obstacle course. I was at the beginning of the line followed by about 20 people who held the shoulder of the person in front of them. I had to tell the people behind me of the obstacles while I tried not to fall over the obstacles myself.
The next day was a day spent totally in the sky. In the morning my group completed the zipline course. After completing the skypark the day before I was able to put my full trust in the equipment and in myself. This meant i was able to relax and enjoy the ziplines.
That evening my group had a 2 hour hike. This was, to my surprise very enjoyable. This was probably due to the promise of the chipper when we got back.
Thursday was our last day. After we had stripped our beds and had our breakfast we headed out to the crystal maze. The highlight of the crystal maze was the 3D maze. It was great fun because it was pitch black and the corridors were very narrow.
We finished the week with the kayaking and pier jumping. This was one of highlights for me because the rivalry between the boats was hilarious. The pier jumping was great fun also because the weather wasnt great and it was very cold but nobody seemed to care. We all braved the cold and I didnt regret it.
This trip helped me alot because I was able to overcome my fear of heights while enjoying myself with the rest of my friends.
