What Geography means to me and my future.
Geography is a big part of my life and of the lives of future generations. Global warming is a big part of the geography course along with non renewable energy sources and fossil fuels. Geography teaches us about the impacts global warming can have on the world we live in, it also teaches us that if we don't do something about global warming in the very near future the ozone layer will be damaged beyond repair. From the perspective of my future and of future generations this is catastrophic because the Ice caps will melt causing sea levels to rise and eventually causing flooding. For me geography is all about the Earth's waterways, soils and rocks. Geography tells us about problems in the developing world and ways in which they can be fixed for now and for the future. In 3rd year a case study that I looked at was Mali in Africa. Mali had a low life expectancy, high infant mortality rates and citizens have a very poor quality of life. Thanks to Geography the developed world is aware of this and beginning to take action sending people out to Mali to train in life saving medical practices to help sustain life now and for the future. Geography has made it easier to develop accurate maps due to the work of cartographers. |
